What’s Included in Your Living Room Painting Service

Every living room job with Orchid Decor includes:

Living room with beige painted walls and wood burner stove in Newport property

Full Surface Preparation

Filling cracks, sanding, priming all patched areas. Preparation is where the quality of the final finish is decided.

Minimum Two Coats on All Walls

Premium trade paint applied with a minimum of two coats. Feature walls, deeper colours, or previously dark-painted surfaces may need three for a consistent finish.

Woodwork Finishing

Skirting boards, door frames, and window trim finished in satin or gloss as standard.

Furniture and Floor Protection

Heavy-duty floor covering and furniture protection throughout the job. We move and protect large items as standard.

Feature wall painting is available for any room — contrasting colours, textured finishes, or a statement alcove wall beside a chimney breast. If you’re refreshing more than one room, ask about our full interior painting services across the property. We also offer wallpapering as an alternative for feature walls in period properties where a textured finish suits the room.

Orchid Decor’s tradespeople carry full public liability insurance on every job.

Our Process

1. Free Consultation and Survey

We visit the property, look at the walls and woodwork, and discuss your colour direction. We assess ceiling height, plaster condition, and any alcoves or bay windows that affect the quote. For Victorian properties in Stow Hill or Maindee, we identify plaster type at this stage — original lime plaster needs a breathable paint, not modern vinyl emulsion. No obligation.

2. Written Quote

You receive a fixed price covering labour, materials, preparation, and protection. No day-rate charging. No additions after the fact. Everything is agreed in writing before we start.

3. Preparation

We move and protect large furniture, cover all flooring, and prepare every surface before any paint goes on. Filling, sanding, and priming are not optional steps — they are where the quality of the final finish is decided. We do not skip this stage.

4. Painting

Walls receive a minimum of two coats. Feature walls, deeper colours, or previously dark-painted surfaces may need three for a consistent finish. We maintain clean edges at cornicing, skirting boards, and around bay window returns throughout.

5. Woodwork, Cleanup, and Handover

Skirting boards, door frames, and window trim are finished in satin or gloss. We walk through the room with you before leaving. Furniture is returned to position and all waste is removed. Most rooms are usable the same evening. Allow 24–48 hours before pushing furniture flush against freshly painted walls.

Living Room Painting Costs in Newport

Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 01633 603793 for a precise quote.

Living room painting costs in Newport depend on the size of the room, its ceiling height, and the condition of the walls. Victorian properties with bay windows and alcoves sit at the upper end of the range. Post-war semis with smooth plaster and standard height ceilings come in lower.

Typical Price Ranges

Small living room (up to 3.5m x 3.5m, 8ft ceilings): £350–£480
Standard post-war semi (4m x 4m, 8ft smooth plaster): £420–£560
Victorian living room with bay window and alcoves: £550–£750
Victorian living room (9–11ft ceilings, cornicing): £600–£850
Large open-plan living-dining space (5m x 6m+): £650–£900

What Affects Your Quote

Bay windows and alcoves: Return walls and recessed chimney alcoves add cutting-in time. This is the single biggest variable in Newport’s Victorian and Edwardian properties.

Ceiling height: Standard 8ft ceilings are straightforward. Victorian rooms at 9–11ft typically add £100–£200 to a quote due to additional setup and reach time.

Wall condition: Newly plastered walls or smooth post-war plasterboard are quickest. Walls with multiple old paint layers, cracks, or previous wallpaper require more preparation time.

Feature walls: A single feature wall in a contrasting colour typically adds £80–£120 to the job.

Newport Living Rooms: Property Types and Challenges

Newport’s housing stock stretches from the 1860s to the present day.

Victorian Terraces (Stow Hill, Baneswell, Maindee — NP19, NP20)

The Victorian streets around Stow Hill and Baneswell have some of Newport’s most characterful living rooms. Ceilings run to 9–11ft. Bay windows create angled return walls, and chimney breast alcoves interrupt the main wall on one side of most rooms. Cutting in cleanly around cornicing and working into alcove recesses takes time and precision.

South-facing Victorian rooms along Maindee get strong afternoon light. North-facing rooms on the Stow Hill terraces stay cooler and darker. Paint choice matters here, and we factor in your room’s natural light before recommending a finish.

Post-War Semis (Malpas, Bettws, Ringland — NP20)

Post-war semis across Malpas and Bettws were built with smooth plaster at 8ft ceiling height. Living rooms are typically rectangular and more straightforward to prepare. The main challenge in older post-war properties is surface condition. Walls painted many times over decades can have built-up layers that show brushstroke texture through a fresh coat if they’re not properly prepared first.

1970s–90s Detached Homes (Bassaleg, Rogerstone — NP10)

Detached properties in Bassaleg and Rogerstone from this era often have larger living rooms with L-shaped or through-lounge layouts. Many have been extended, adding a dining area or conservatory link. Getting colour to flow across a larger space without the room feeling disconnected is the real brief here.

New-Build Open-Plan Spaces (Llanwern, Langstone — NP18)

Open-plan living-dining rooms in Llanwern and Langstone are typically bright but challenging to colour plan. Large spans of wall and high ceilings in some executive builds mean small tester patches can misrepresent how a colour reads at scale. We bring samples and test them in the actual space before any commitment.
