Victorian terraces on Stow Hill and Maindee are known for their solid four-panel front doors. Many of the same property types also have original or period-style panel doors internally — hallway doors, living room doors, and the door to the staircase.

Accumulated paint layers on mouldings dull the profile detail of the panel. Externally, moisture damage combines with paint build-up. We assess paint depth, strip where necessary, repair any degraded timber, prime correctly, and apply two finish coats in the agreed colour and sheen.

Post-war estates across Bettws and Allt-yr-yn replaced original timber with uPVC doors in the 1990s and 2000s. These fade over time and rarely match the surrounding joinery once the colour has shifted.

We use a specialist adhesion primer designed for plastic substrates before applying the finish coat. Without this step, standard paint will not bond and will lift within months. With the right system, a repainted uPVC door lasts five to eight years.

Composite doors on Langstone and Bassaleg new-builds are well-engineered but come in a limited factory range. After a few years, homeowners often want a different colour or the composite surface starts to look dull.

The surface must be degreased, primed, and finished with a product rated for exterior use. We carry out a patch test on request where adhesion is uncertain.

Internal panel doors throughout Newport homes — hallways, bedrooms, living rooms — are often painted over many times without preparation. The result is soft edges on the mouldings and a slightly thick, rough feel to the surface.

We prepare internal doors to the same standard as external. Eggshell or satin for most rooms; gloss where a harder, more traditional finish is wanted.
